Success Stories

Christina Bever

I have had a severe hearing loss of 80% plus since I was 6. In my life, it's the little things that matter most; the sounds that emanate from my children's voices, their laughter and whispers and the sweetness in their voices as they tell me they love me. Clarity counts! I can miss all these wonderful things so easily because of background noises including: feedback, the television, listening on the phone and people talking while not looking directly at me. It's very frustrating.

Christina BeverAbout four months ago I stopped in Hear Inc. for business. In all honesty, I wasn't in the market to purchase new hearing aids just yet. That's when I met Jim Morris who sat with me and listened as I explained how I fell when I was a child and hit my head. After the fall and when I came to my ears were ringing and sound was slowly slipping away. Just a few hours later my hearing was gone. Two surgeries later the best that could be done was done. The best that was restored was around 20%. I needed hearing aids. Now, twenty-three years after my last surgery, technology had advanced. He explained to me how, after testing my hearing, he could digitally assign two hearing aids to multitask.

Jim patiently worked with me to adjust each hearing aid to meet my needs. The crispness, the clarity, and the control these hearing aids have are amazing. They had three different modes. The first was to be used in normal surroundings. The second reduced background noises and amplified voices in front of me. The third was telephone mode. The nice thing about them, if not the most amazing, was I didn't even need to press any buttons on the hearing aids. They automatically analyze the environment I am in and adjust accordingly. I can also choose to adjust them myself as well. The challenge was he took the volume adjuster and eliminated it. He explained to me it's not better to be louder but to have clarity. It was the perfect day to be fitted. I had a concert that night to attend. I must say no two hearing aids are alike. What I had been wearing compared to these was significantly different. The concert was great and I noticed how sound can be interpreted so differently. I also noticed more changes in how they operated to meet my needs the next day at work. I was able to talk on the phone significantly better. The aids did well in noticing my environment and switching back and forth between modes.

At home, the gentle whispers of my two year old were so clear, I didn't have to strain to understand him. My soft-spoken five year old I could hear from a greater distance and I could follow through the rush of my eight year old's day at school and all the gossip without having to stop her and make her repeat anything. I thank Jim in taking so much time to work with me to make sure they are benefiting me and working to suit my needs. He has helped me find the best fit to my particular loss. These hearing aids were the best purchase I have made to date.

It matters that I don't have to say "What?" constantly. Conversations are much easier joined and the confidence that I have knowing I am hearing and not guessing what people are saying, matters. The fact I am more social and can interact more at work as well as home, matters. When I rent a movie and don't have to constantly read the captioning, matters. There are enough stresses and frustrations in life, hearing shouldn't be one. I have three little ones that mean the world to me and it's truly the little things they say that matter most.
